Arlington Church Purpose Statement

We will bless the Arlington/Poughkeepsie area with the liberating message of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We will serve the spiritually lost, the needy, those of every race and ethnicity, in the name of and for the glory of God. By our worship and teaching, we will inspire and encourage faith in Christ and faithful obedience to His commands. In our fellowship we will recognize and use our God given spiritual gifts so that every member will have a ministry.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
We are praying that all is well with you at this festive time of year.
Romans 15:5-6 says “May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” This past year has been a time of change at Arlington Reformed Church. Our Pastor retired in June and since that time we have had a variety of people preach from our pulpit. This provided a fresh voice and different preaching style every week. In spite of losing our spiritual leader, we remain encouraged by the spirit of unity and Faith in the Lord Jesus we see at Arlington.
Members of the Congregation stepped forward and the Search Committee was formed. It has been working hard and is at the point that they are reviewing prospective Pastor’s profiles. Continued prayer and patience is required in the Pastoral Search process, so that the right person is chosen to lead us forward.
Many people continue to work hard in a variety of existing ministries and some new ministries have just recently started, namely the “Stuff the Bread” sandwich making ministry. With bread donated by Stewarts, sandwiches are made by willing helpers and delivered to Dutchess Outreach one Sunday afternoon a month.
Advent is the time when we look forward to the coming of the Lord Jesus. It is the time of birth and renewal of our commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ and His teachings. Please make plans to join us for this Advent Season. November 29th was the first Sunday of Advent and we welcomed Ed Hawkins to the Pulpit. December 6th is Communion Sunday with Rev. Arlene Wilhelm. The December 13th service will be led John Young and December 20th will be a family service led by Mary Hafford.
Our Christmas Eve Candlelight Service will be December 24th at 7:30pm. We will be praying for clear weather so that many can attend.
We are asking for your prayers and financial support of the Ministry of the Arlington Reformed Church this Christmas Season so that we may continue the work of our Lord Jesus Christ.
We are a small but very committed group that Love the Lord Jesus. We are prayerful that when new leadership is found our ministry will grow in size and grow our Love of God and each other.

Have a Blessed Advent and a very Merry Christmas and may God continue to Bless you in the New Year.

Our congregation was organized in 1910. At that time Arlington was a "cow pasture" and a growing suburb of Poughkeepsie. To meet the spiritual needs of the new community  a small group began evening meetings in a private home. The Re. Addison C. Bird was called to be the founding pastor.

The present building was dedicated in 1914. An education wing was added in 1955. Since the Open Our Doors building program in 2005, the building is now handicapped accessible with an elevator to the lower level and on campus parking.

Our goals remains to faithfully and dependably follow our Lord Jesus Christ, reaching out in blessing to meet the needs of the community.
